Dylan promises fans Stirling stuff

Bob Dylan
Bob Dylan is to play an open air concert at Stirling Castle this summer.

Regular Music, the Edinburgh-based promoters, said the US singer-songwriter would play the castle venue on Friday, 13 July.

More than 7,500 tickets are to go on sale next Wednesday for the gig which will be one of only two British dates, the other being Liverpool Docks.

He follows in the footsteps of Runrig, REM and Ocean Colour Scene and UB40 who have all played the venue.

Stirling Castle
A spokesman for Regular Music said: "He will be massive and we are delighted to get him, but Stirling Castle really sells itself as a major music venue.

"When we are bidding for a band we always bring the managers into Stirling up the M9 to Craigforth.

"They look out of the window of the limo and across the fields to the castle and say: 'Wow, are we really going to be playing there?'"

Dylan, who will be 60 in May, is currently in the middle of a world tour.

His most popular songs, such as Blowin' In The Wind and Like A Rolling Stone have sold worldwide and been covered by numerous artists.

His 1974 hit Knocking on Heaven's Door was rewritten by in 1996 as a part of an anti-gun campaign in the wake of the Dunblane tragedy and went straight to number one in the charts.
