Plan of Parliament

Plan of Parliament
The oldest part of the Palace of Wesminster is Westminster Hall. A parliamentary hall has stood on that site since 1095.

The rest of the Palace is only about 150 years old. It was burnt down in the Great Fire of 1834 and then rebuilt under the architectural control of Sir Charles Barry, and the interior design of Augustus Welby Pugin between 1840 and 1852.

The Commons Chamber is the newest part of the building. It was rebuilt after being bombed out during World War II and was re-opened by King George VI on October 26, 1950.
