Cameron cancels campaign visits

The Cameron family

Conservative leader David Cameron has cancelled Wednesday's political engagements for "personal reasons".

Mr Cameron was due to be canvassing voters in Wales and the North West of England ahead of 1 May's local polls.

Tory sources have told the BBC that Mr Cameron's son, Ivan, who is severely disabled, has been taken into hospital.

But the sources emphasised that Ivan, who has just turned six, has to go to hospital quite often for treatment and Mr Cameron frequently goes with him.

Party sources also made clear that Mr Cameron still intends to carry out his engagements on Thursday.
