MP involved in cyclist collision

Simon Burns

A Conservative MP's car was involved in an accident with a cyclist outside Parliament earlier, the party confirms.

Chelmsford West MP Simon Burns was leaving the House of Commons in his Range Rover on Thursday evening when the accident happened.

The cyclist, a man in his 20s, has been flown by air ambulance to the Royal London Hospital.

Mr Burns was breathalysed at the scene - the test was negative and police have confirmed they have made no arrests.

The cyclist's condition is not known.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "A collision occurred as a 4x4 exited the main gates.

"The vehicle stopped at the scene, the male driver was uninjured."

Mr Burns would not comment on the accident.
