Ex-Coventry MP John Butcher dies

John Butcher Former Coventry South West MP John Butcher has died at the age of 60.

He suffered a heart attack during the Christmas holiday while walking in the Lake District with his family.

He was an MP between 1979 and 1997 until boundary changes. He served as a minister for education, consumer affairs, and trade and industry.

More recently he had a variety of business interests and worked for the employers organisation, the Institute of Directors.

He was also a member of the Midlands Industrial Council, a donor to the Conservative Party.

Mr Butcher lived in Solihull and leaves a wife, two daughters and a son.
