Car ads 'should show emissions'

A traffic jam A Labour MP has launched a bid to force car makers to display more information on carbon emissions in their adverts.

Colin Challen, who chairs the Commons climate change group, says a quarter of the space in car ads should be given over to environmental impact data.

He said the manufacturers needed to "enlarge the small print" on such material, he said.

The MP for the Leeds constituency of Morley and Rothwell is to present a Bill to Parliament on Monday.

"More and more consumers want to do their bit to combat climate change," Mr Challen said.

People wanted to see how their car purchases would impact on the environment, he added.

"A prominent display of this advice from the chief scientific advisor to the government would help us all make more informed and responsible choices."
