Liberal Democrat MPs have elected Paul Burstow as the party's chief whip in the House of Commons.
The 43-year-old, who has been an MP for Sutton and Cheam since 1997, takes over from Andrew Stunell.
Mr Stunell is now the party's spokesman shadowing the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister.
The chief whip is in charge of party discipline and attempts to make sure that backbench MPs vote with the party leadership on important issues.
Liberal Democrat MPs will vote for a new deputy leader next week.
