Religious hatred: How MPs voted

VOTE RESULT

MPs' votes in the other defeat

Below is the full list, in alphabetical order, of how MPs voted in the second - and most significant - of two government defeats over the controversial Racial and Religious Hatred Bill.

MPs voted either for or against government attempts to overturn a Lords amendment to the bill that said "abusive and insulting" behaviour should not be criminalised, merely "threatening" behaviour; and that people should not be prosecuted for "recklessly" stiring up religious hatred - that is, without intent.

Where an MP's vote in the table is shown as "N/A", this means they did not vote, which could be for a number of reasons. Among those not voting by convention are the Speaker (Michael Martin) and his deputies.
