Vaz: Is the coverage racist?
The Europe Minister Keith Vaz continues to face allegations about his business links and financial affairs.
This week a group of prominent British Asians have sent a letter to two national newspapers expressing their "deep sense of unease and hurt" over media treatment of Britain's first elected Asian minister.
Two Labour peers tell BBC News Online whether they believe the recent press coverage of Keith Vaz has been racist or whether it is politically justified.
Labour peer Baroness Uddin
Baroness Uddin of Bethnal Green was one of 11 peers to sign the letter to the national newspapers. She believes the press should end its "ferocious witch hunt" and await the findings of the official inquiry into the passport affair and any other investigations before passing judgements.
Former Labour treasury spokesman Lord Desai believes media coverage of Keith Vaz's business affairs have everything to do with the fact that he is a government minister and nothing to do with the fact that he is Asian.
