Three men will appear at Downpatrick Magistrates Court on Thursday charged in connection with a serious assault in Castlewellan.

The trio, aged 18, 19 and 20 are accused of attempted murder and grievous bodily harm.

A fourth man has been released on bail.

The charges relate to an attack on Main Street in Castlewellan on Saturday in which three men were injured. One of the victims is in a critical condition in Belfast's Royal Victoria Hospital.

The PSNI made a special point of thanking people in Castlewellan for information they were given about the attack.
