Protest outside defence firm ends

Protest outside Raytheon, Derry

A protest outside the Londonderry premises of US defence firm Raytheon has ended.

Up to 70 people from the Derry Anti-War Coalition blocked workers from entering the building in Springtown on Friday morning.

They were protesting against the Israeli offensive in Gaza.

Eamonn McCann from the DAWC said the protest was a peaceful one."We will attempt in a non-violent way to prevent Raytheon from operating here today.

"We have absolutely nothing against people in other plants and there was absolutely no need for them to feel intimidated.

"Stream workers have come along here today and they have walked in peacefully and that will continue to be the situation," said Mr McCann.

A spokesperson from Raytheon said the company respected the right of anyone to protest peacefully, but added that their concern was the welfare of their employees.
