Community support shop in vigil

Almost 100 people have protested against a string of robberies at a shop in Londonderry's Glenowen estate.

It has been targeted three times in the past six weeks.

Last week in two separate robberies, one shop assistant was threatened with a broken bottle, and another with a knife.

"When all these people are supporting you - you feel a bit better. It's not as scary to try and come into work again," said one of the workers.

The owner of Hone's Food Stores, Gerard Hone, said his staff have been threatened with knives, a hammer and a broken bottle.

"It's comforting to me and the staff that we have the backing of the community in this," he said.

One of the organisers of Monday night's vigil, Gerry McCartney, said local people wanted to show their "solidarity" with Mr Hone and his staff.
