Factory workers wait for job news

Calcast

More than 100 workers at a car parts factory in Campsie are still waiting to hear if they are to lose their jobs.

Talks took place in Paris on Friday about the future of the Calcast plant, which makes cylinder heads for cars.

Workers who were due to prepare the factory for production on Monday have been told not to come in.

Philip Oakes from the trade union Unite said this was "a worrying sign" for employees.

"We've got to try and come up with solutions to keep the plant open, but I'm not optimistic," he said.

The plant has been focused on the manufacture of cylinder heads for the Ford Jeep Explorer.

Sales of such large vehicles have experienced a huge downturn worldwide in recent months.
