Fourth armed robbery at bookies

Two masked men armed with a handgun have robbed a bookmakers shop in Londonderry.

They entered Ladbrokes on the Lecky Road shortly after 1500 GMT on Friday and forced staff to open the safe.

They made off with a sum of money in a red Vauxhall car which was later found burnt out in the Iona Court area.

It is the fourth time the premises has been targeted. In May, armed robbers threatened staff with a gun and a hammer before stealing cash.

Sinn Féin councillor Patricia Logue said she was fearful the staff would lose their jobs.

"This is an attack on the community," she said.

"The people of the area certainly don't want to see these type of incident happening in their community."
