Defendant sprays judge with water

Scales of justice

A defendant has sprayed a judge with water from a fire extinguisher at Londonderry Magistrates Court.

Liam McNally had remanded a 19-year-old man from the city in custody when he grabbed a fire extinguisher.

The defendant, charged with burglary and motoring offences, sprayed the judge at the weekend sitting.

Earlier there had been a verbal exchange between Mr McNally and the defendant.

Water from the fire extinguisher hit the district judge, his desk and papers.

Mr McNally left the court immediately and police officers restrained the defendant.
