Bomb defused after four-day alert

Bomb experts have defused a device four days after it was discovered by a road near the border in Fermanagh.

The bomb was found at Wattlebridge near Newtownbutler on Saturday after two separate telephoned warnings to police.

Chief Superintendent Michael Skuce thanked people in the area for their support during the extensive search and clearance operation.

"The terrorists who planted this bomb do not care who they kill - it was wholly indiscriminate," he said.

Making a fresh appeal for information, he added: "This was a deliberate attempt to murder police and military personnel, but it could also have killed or injured local people."
