A woman in her 30s has been killed during a practice for an aerial display due to take place as part of an arts festival in County Donegal.

It is understood a model globe from which the woman was suspended fell from a crane at a venue in Ballyshannon.

The woman is then thought to have fallen about 30ft and the globe fell on top of her. She died at the scene.

The practice took place on Wednesday afternoon ahead of the Blue Stacks Festival.

The matter has been referred to the Republic's health and safety authority.

A Garda spokesman said there were no suspicious circumstances relating to the death.
