Tributes paid to murdered mother

Several hundred mourners have attended the funeral of the murdered Londonderry mother-of-four Jean Quigley.

Ms Quigley, 30, was beaten to death in her Shantallow home last weekend. She was two months pregnant when she died.

Prayers were said at Requiem Mass in St Joseph's Church, Galliagh, for her unborn child whom she had planned to name Kevin Christopher.

Fr Dermot McGirr said: "She loved her children and they filled her heart and her thoughts."

He said she was a lively young person who enjoyed life.

"In company, she was the life and soul of the party and at the heart of it all was Jean's love for family," Fr McGirr.

It is understood police are seeking a man in connection with her murder.

He is Stephen Cahoon, who is believed to have been in contact with the 30-year-old in recent weeks.

Cahoon served a jail term in Northern Ireland after convictions in 1999 for violent assaults on two women.

Officers handed out leaflets and carried out interviews near Ms Quigley's home in Cornshell Fields on Friday.

The PSNI have been liaising with Gardai over the case.
