Airport may be closed by strike

City of Derry Airport

City of Derry Airport may be forced to close on 16 and 17 July if workers walk out in a dispute over pay.

Unions representing firefighters, baggage handlers and cleaners were urged by Derry City Council to exempt their members from the UK-wide strike.

Joe Miller, chairman of the Airport Committee said talks are continuing to try to reach a resolution.

"If there's no firefighters, a plane would simply not be allowed to land or take off," he said.
