Murder vehicle identified by PSNI

The police officer in charge of the investigation into the murder of Bryan McGlynn has said the PSNI believe they have identified the killers' vehicle.

Bryan McGlynn, 28, was shot dead in his home in the Fountain Hill area of Londonderry on 3 June 2007.

Detective Chief Inspector Frankie Taylor said police were looking for information on a Ford Escort they believed carried the gunman.

A 27-year-old man was arrested last week but later released without charge.

Mr McGlynn was originally from Strabane but had been working as a doorman in Derry.

Chief Inspector Taylor said the PSNI had used CCTV to follow the vehicles across the city.

"We now have two cars which we can say, with a degree of certainty, were involved in the actual crime.

"A Vauxhall Corsa with distinctive metallic purple/blue paintwork, and a dark-coloured Ford Escort hatchback were captured on CCTV.

"We have tracked these two cars from the cityside into the Waterside, along Spencer Road, down Fountain Hill and then along Spencer Road again," he said.

"We can tell that a Vauxhall Corsa played a scouting role in the operation, in that it was the first vehicle down Fountain Hill.

"The Ford Escort we believe carried the gunman, and the gunman got out of the Escort, carried out the crime, and then followed behind the Corsa on the escape route."

Chief Inspector Taylor said anyone with information on either of the cars should tell the police.

Bryan McGlynn's girlfriend Jennifer Cowley, who was with him the night he died, said she was unable to put his death out of her mind.

"Bryan and I had a wonderful relationship and I miss him very much," said Ms Cowley.

"I still cannot understand why this happened.

"If there is someone out there who knows who killed Bryan they should call the police.

"It has been a year now and Bryan's family deserves justice for what has been done," she said.

At the time, the INLA said it carried out the murder.
