'Imitation gun' caused city alert

Waterloo Street

A security alert in Londonderry city centre was caused by an imitation gun police have said.

The suspicious object was discovered in Harvey Street on Tuesday morning and homes and business in the area were evacuated while the scene was examined.

The area around Harvey Street, off Waterloo Street in the city centre was cordoned off. Army technical officers examined the scene.

The area has now re-opened.
