Can music players damage hearing?

If you want to continue listening to your favourite music in 10 or 15 years time, the advice from health professionals is to turn the volume down.

Doctors say a growing number of young people are experiencing damage to their hearing from using personal music players.

Tonight's Health Focus looks at how a special advisory body is recommending tougher regulations to control sound on these audio players.

David Adams, an ENT consultant at the Royal Victoria Hospital, talks about the effect loud music can have on hearing.

"I have no doubt that if we keep on using these, there will eventually be a generation of young people with hearing loss," he said.

Our Health Correspondent Marie-Louise Connolly also speaks to Brian Symmington from the Royal National Institute of the Deaf.
