Parade postponed amid PSNI search

Policeman

A Remembrance Day parade has been postponed after police received information that a device may have been left in a County Londonderry village.

A security operation is continuing in Bellaghy.

The secretary of the British Legion in the area, Jim Wilson, said he was "very disappointed".

Meanwhile, police said nothing was found during searches in Loughgall following claims of a suspicious device in the Ballyhagan Road area.

Officers have advised anyone who notices anything suspicious in the vicinity not to investigate or touch the object but report their concerns to the police immediately.

Disruption

Mr Wilson said he could not understand why anyone would want to disrupt the Bellaghy parade which was due to take place earlier on Sunday.

He added: "When you plan something like this you want to see it going ahead and being completed and to remember what the idea is behind it.

"Past conflict and every conflict involves all of the community and I think it's a big disappointment."
