Collins film outfit makes £3,120

Outfits from the 1996 biopic of Irish republican legend Michael Collins have gone under the hammer in London.

The long green military coat and accessories worn by Ballymena-born Liam Neeson in the title role and expected to raise about £400, sold for £3,120.

A prisoner's uniform worn by Alan Rickman, who played Eamon De Valera, fetched £120, auctioneers Bonhams said.

The black cape worn by Christopher Lee who starred as Dracula in Hammer's 1958 horror film, sold for £26,400.

A uniform worn by Aidan Quinn in Michael Collins fetched £264.

Just under 251 lots were entered into the auction from international costume house Angels, selling for a total of £283,980.

There were also a number of surprise hits on the day, including a lot comprising a naval officer's jacket worn by Mel Gibson and a wool waistcoat worn by Edward Fox, both from The Bounty (1984), which sold for £7,800 against an estimate of £300-400 and Clint Eastwood's military tunic from Where Eagles Dare which sold for more than nine-times its low estimate at £9,600.
