Man in court on feud death charge

A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of UDA member Tommy English eight years ago.

Darren Stuart Moore, 39, from Mount Vernon Park in Belfast, is also charged with membership of the UVF.

Tommy English was shot dead in north Belfast during a loyalist feud in 2000. The case is being brought by the PSNI's Historical Enquiries Team.

A lawyer for Mr Moore said his client would be "strenuously denying the charges".

A detective sergeant representing the HET told the court he believed he could connect Moore to the charge.

When questioned by the defence lawyer, the police officer confirmed that the accused had been questioned twice before, in 2000 and 2004, and had always strenuously denied the charges.

The detective sergeant also agreed there was no forensic evidence at this stage and the case was based on the statements of two men who had also been charged in connection with the murder.

Darren Moore was remanded in custody until later this month.
