Pipe bomb is found outside house

Pipe bomb (generic)

A pipe bomb has been discovered outside a house in Newtownabbey.

It was found outside the property at Fairyknowe Park shortly after midnight following a telephoned warning.

The area was cordoned off while the army examined what was described as a "viable device". It was removed for further examination.

"A motive for the incident remains under investigation," said a police spokeswoman. Detectives have appealed for information.
