Three men stabbed in bar attack

Three men have been treated in hospital for stab wounds after being attacked in a bar on west Belfast's Falls Road.

Shortly before 0045 GMT on Tuesday, two masked men armed with weapons including a knife entered the bar near Cupar Street and attacked a number of people.

A 21-year-old man suffered a serious stab wound to his face, a man in his 30s a wound to his side and a man in his 20s an injury to his hand.

None of the injuries are understood to be life-threatening.

A third man may have waited in a vehicle outside the bar during the attack.

It is believed the vehicle may have been a large saloon car and a 4x4 vehicle may also have been used.

"We have been in touch with the PSNI and the information they are giving us is that this incident started in a city centre bar and that those responsible travelled into west Belfast to commit this attack," said Sinn Féin Councillor Marie Cush.

"This is a criminal gang who are not afraid of being able to enter a bar anywhere in the city armed with knives, machetes and hatchets. The sooner they, and their weapons, are removed from the streets of Belfast the better."

Police have said they are following a positive line of inquiry.

They have appealed for anyone with information to contact them.
