Newspaper group to make job cuts

The Scottish company which owns the News Letter and the Derry Journal has said it plans to make eight job cuts.

It is understood that most of the posts under threat are in Londonderry.

Johnston Press says it wants to centralise all of its production work at its Northern Ireland headquarters in Craigavon.

The National Union of Journalists has said the actual number of job losses being made across Johnston Press titles in NI could be more than 30.

"Every effort will be made to mitigate the effects of this proposal through redeployment and voluntary redundancies," said a Johnston Press spokeswoman.

Johnston Press owns numerous other titles in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, including the Portadown Times, the Londonderry Sentinel and the Donegal Democrat.
