Boy burnt in 'deliberate' attack

Connor Officer

An 11-year-old boy is to be examined by a skin specialist after suffering burns to his face when a flammable liquid was sprayed on him in Bangor.

Connor Officer was in Crochan Court on Wednesday night when he was attacked.

It is understood a teenage boy lit a flammable substance which sprayed over the 11-year-old's face.

"I think this person did deliberately go out and do it, so if it was not Connor it probably would have been some other kid," said his mother Anne-Marie.

"I just want to appeal for anyone that witnessed it to come forward," she added.

Anne-Marie Officer said her son will be examined by a skin specialist in the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast next week to see what further treatment is required.

DUP assembly member Alex Easton said there were concerns about a rise in anti-social behaviour in the area.

"This child could not only have been burnt and scarred, they could have lost their sight," he said.
