Woman sexually assaulted in town

Police officer

A woman has been sexually assaulted in Bangor.

The incident happened in the early hours of Sunday morning in the Balligan Gardens area of Kilcooley estate, though details have just been released.

The 20-year-old woman was walking through the area between 0030 and 0200 GMT when she was approached by an unknown man and sexually assaulted.

Police have appealed for anyone who witnessed the attack or has any information about it to contact them.

DUP North Down assembly member Peter Weir said he was deeply disturbed to hear about the attack.

"The onus is not just upon giving support to the attacked woman, but also ensuring that the perpetrator is brought to justice," he said.
