A fire at a primary school in Portadown is believed to be malicious, the Fire and Rescue Service has said.

The blaze, at Presentation Primary School in Thomas Street, was reported shortly before 2200 GMT on Saturday night.

The school will remain closed on Monday while repairs are carried out to the electricity and heating systems.

The fire began in the canteen before spreading to the dining room area of the school.

The principal of Presentation Primary School, Yvonne Mulholland, said the school kitchen had been "gutted" in the blaze.

"We are going to need to get companies out tomorrow to try and see what we can do with the rest of the dining room," she said.
