Fourth crash officer laid to rest

The funeral has taken place of Declan Greene, one of the four police officers killed in a car crash in County Down last weekend.

Their vehicle crashed and burst into flames on the Warrenpoint to Rostrevor Road as they were answering a call for help from colleagues on Sunday morning.

Hundred of mourners packed into St Colman's Church outside Kilkeel.

During Requiem Mass, Constable Greene, 39, was described as "highly respected by all sides of the community".

Father Peter O'Hare said the police officer "lived for his family".

Constable Green was due to receive an area commander's commendation for his community work with young people in the Kilkeel area.

A certificate for this, along with his police cap and gloves, were presented to his wife after the Mass.

Constable Greene was interred in the cemetery beside St Colman's Church.

On Wednesday, Constable Green's three colleagues who died alongside him were buried.

A service for James Magee, 27, was held in Dromore while Kevin Gorman, 24, was laid to rest in Drumaness.

The funeral of Kenneth Irvine, 30, was also held in Kilkeel.
