Five pipe bombs seized from house

Five pipe bombs and a large amount of ammunition have been recovered from a house in County Antrim.

The "viable devices" were found during a planned search at Carmeen Drive in the Whitehouse area of Newtownabbey.

Eight controlled explosions were carried out during the operation which took place shortly after 2130 GMT on Tuesday.

A 22-year-old man was arrested and is currently being questioned about the find.

East Antrim Alliance Party assembly member Sean Neeson said the find was worrying.

"I am deeply concerned not only about the pipe bombs but also the ammunition find," he said.

"Hopefully this is not a sign of tensions increasing in the locality. The last thing the area needs is thugs causing problems."
