Patients diagnosed with C. Diff

Two patients on a ward in Holywell Hospital in County Antrim have been diagnosed with Clostridium Difficile.

The Northern Trust said the families of other patients, on a dementia ward, had been told of the situation.

"Staff are highly vigilant on the ward and there have been no further cases of this infection over the last week," the trust said.

It follows the diagnosis of three cases of the infection at Altnagelvin Hospital in Londonderry this month.

The Northern Trust said that they were managing the care of the two patients with C. Diff "in line with advice on best practice".

"The trust has rigorous infection control processes in place, including intensive cleaning," a spokesperson said.
