Firefighters

A man has been arrested after a fire at a house in the Beeches area of Portadown's Garvaghy Road.

Shortly after 1000 GMT police found the man inside the alight property.

Six officers entered the house and brought the man to safety. He was treated for the effects of breathing in smoke before being arrested.

The fire service attended the scene and the fire was put out. Two officers received treatment, one for smoke inhalation, the other a hand injury.

Some residents were moved from their homes for a time.
