Man appears in court over murder

Kenneth Nicholl

A 35-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the murder of Kenneth Nicholl in Larne.

Troy McAuley from Herbert Avenue in the town appeared before Coleraine Magistrates Court on Monday.

Mr Nicholl, 29, was found stabbed to death at the back of Herbert Avenue at 0800 GMT on 2 November.

A detective inspector who arrested Mr McAuley said he could connect him to the charge. He was remanded in custody until 21 November.

A defence lawyer asked the detective inspector to confirm that during 19 police interviews the defendant denied any involvement.

The policeman said that Mr McAuley had made no comment and no admissions.

A woman arrested on suspicion of withholding information was released without charge on Monday.

Mr Nicholl was buried on Saturday following a service at the town's Old Presbyterian Church.
