Wig-wearing thief robs mail van

Police patrol

A wig-wearing thief has robbed a Royal Mail van in the centre of Belfast, the police have said.

It happened at 1015 BST on Wednesday on High Street.

The driver was hit and threatened by a man wielding a knife, who then got into the van and emptied a number of Post Office bags.

He made off in a silver-coloured car with jewellery and money. The robber was described as dressed in black, wearing flared trousers and a wig.

Police have appealed for anyone with information to contact them.
