30 people made homeless by fire

Scene of fire

Up to 30 people have had their homes destroyed by a fire at a three-storey block of flats in County Down.

Four people were rescued after the blaze broke out at Loughside Drive in Ballynahinch on Tuesday afternoon.

Twelve Housing Executive flats were destroyed and residents spent the night in a nearby hotel.

"We working to see where we can get them placed and then see what their longer term requirements are," said Aidan Brannigan of the executive.

The police said there was nothing suspicious about how the fire started.
