Parent anger at '11-plus void'

Angry parents in Larne questioned Sinn Fein's education spokesperson John O'Dowd on Tuesday night about what will happen after the 11-plus ends.

It followed a day of complaints from politicians, principals and parents over a lack of clarity in the system.

Mr O'Dowd tried to reassure about 25 parents in Larne asked what they would tell their children about their future after the 11-plus ends.

On Monday, Caítriona Ruane told the executive no-one was confused.

"People right across the north understand exactly what's happening here," she said.

"There's a small minority of people who are trying to block change. I'm moving forward with a range of proposals, broadening the curriculum, dealing with the 12,000 young people that we're failing every year."

The education minister added that she not prepared to "preside over education apartheid".
