More than 160 unlicensed vehicles have been clamped or recovered this week by the PSNI and Driver and Vehicle Agency.
Vehicles in Belfast which have been untaxed for 28 days or more are being targeted in the two week operation.
"Many are unroadworthy and driven by people who have no driving licence or insurance," said Inspector Gary McComb.
A clamped car is only released when £200 is paid and the vehicle is taxed. Recovered cars can be crushed if they are not claimed within seven days.
"As an agency we are committed to making roads safer and reducing vehicle crime," said Brendan Magee, DVA chief executive.
"Because vehicle tax can only be purchased with a valid MOT and insurance certificate, reducing the number of unlicensed on the road also reduces the number of uninsured and potentially unroadworthy vehicles on our roads."
The DVA and PSNI have carried out 56 joint operations since the start of the year. A total of 3,925 vehicles have been clamped or seized during that time.
