Police car

Two men who held a taxi driver at gunpoint and forced him to drive them across the Irish border have been arrested by the PSNI.

It is understood Irish police had tried to arrest the men during a follow-up operation to a house search in Castleblayney, County Monaghan.

The men, aged 19 and 40, are also alleged to have threatened gardaí with a firearm before hijacking the taxi.

The car was pursued by gardaí until it crossed the border at Keady, Co Armagh.

Both men were subsequently arrested by the PSNI at about 2040 BST on Monday and are being held in Armagh.

A 38-year-old woman was arrested following the initial search operation and is being held at Castleblayney Garda Station.
