Ahern to join peace-making body

Bertie Ahern

Former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern has been appointed to an international advisory group involved in conflict resolution.

Other people invited to join the World Economic Forum's Council on Negotiation and Conflict Resolution include former US President Jimmy Carter.

Mr Ahern was appointed due to his role in the Northern Ireland peace process.

Other invitees with former roles in Northern Ireland include talks chairman George Mitchell and former weapons inspector Marti Ahtisaari.

The council will have up to 30 members.
