Man is arrested over city killing

Body being removed from the scene

A 28-year-old man has been arrested by police over the murder of a man in south Belfast.

Shane Cunningham, 39, was found at a house in Woodbreda Park on Tuesday morning.

Mr Cunningham, a stonemason, lived at Rossdale Gardens in the Four Winds area of the city, but it is understood he grew up in Woodbreda Park.

The man who is being questioned was arrested in Belfast on Tuesday afternoon.

Detectives have appealed for anybody who was in the area of Woodbreda Park between 2200 BST on Monday and 1000 BST on Tuesday to contact them.

Alliance Party Councillor Sara Duncan said she felt "deeply shocked and saddened" by the death.

"I knew the man who died since he was a child, and his death is so hard to fathom for the whole community," she said.
