Pet dog badly hurt in house fire

German Shepherds (generic)

A German Shepherd dog has suffered severe burns in what police have described as a suspicious fire at a house in north Belfast.

The fire service was called to the York Park property at about 0240 BST on Thursday.

It is understood it started at the rear of the property and spread to a nearby oil tank and ground floor bathroom, which was extensively damaged.

A woman and two children were in the house at the time but were not injured.

The pet dog suffered burns to its head, legs and back and is being treated by a vet.

Police have appealed to any witnesses or anyone with information about the fire to contact them.
