Dissidents 'have little support'

Dissident republicans have little or no support in their communities, Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness said.

He was speaking on the BBC's The Politics Show following the murder of Emmet Shiels, 22, last week.

Mr McGuinness said dissidents had come to a fork in the road and must pursue a peaceful future.

He said the message was clear in the aftermath of Mr Shiels' murder last week.

"Very large numbers of people from the Bogside and Creggan came out to tell these people they should stop their activities, their activities are unacceptable and that we want no more of this," he said.
