Taxi driver on trafficking charge

Gavel

A Lisburn taxi driver has appeared in court in Antrim accused of involvement in the trafficking of people from outside the EU.

Colin Rutherford, 51, from Glenmore Walk, Hilden, was arrested on Thursday.

He faces six charges of assisting in the unlawful immigration of persons from outside the European Union and conveying them to the Irish Republic.

The incidents are alleged to have occurred between 9 November 2007 and 24 May of this year.

Antrim Magistrate Robert Alcorn freed Mr Rutherford on continuing bail on condition that he does not enter any airport or dock.

He is due to appear before magistrates again on 29 July.
