Pensioner blackmailed for £60,000

Gavel

A 21-year-old man has pleaded guilty at Londonderry Crown Court to blackmailing a 69-year-old woman to try and obtain £60,000.

Paul Kelly, from Carnhill, admitted six charges of making unlawful threats with menaces in an attempt to obtain £60,000 from the pensioner in September 2007.

Judge Desmond Marrinan QC told Kelly the charges were "very serious" and ordered a pre-sentence report.

Kelly was remanded on continuing bail and will be sentenced next month.
