Petrol bomb is thrown at church

A petrol bomb and paint have been thrown at a church in County Fermanagh.

St Comgall's Church of Ireland in at High Street in Newtownbutler was attacked at about 2200 BST on Saturday.

Luminous green paint was thrown over the door and scorch damage was caused by the petrol bomb.

Police believe the attack was connected to an incident at the same church at the start of the month when two lead glass windows were broken with stones.

Police are appealing for information about the attack.

The rector of the church, Rev Richard Seymour Whiteley, said: "It''s just very sad and this is the second attack in a week.

"Last week we had a couple of windows very badly damaged, today's attack was a little more serious, a couple of petrol bombs were used.

"Many people over the last week expressed their concern and sadness that we were vandalised last week so it is good to get support from such a wide range of people."
