61-year-old jailed on rape charge

Gavel A 61-year-old Londonderry man has been jailed for 12 years for raping a girl almost 40 years ago.

The man, who cannot be identified to protect his victims, was found guilty at his trial last month of abusing two girls.

He was found guilty of eight charges, including a rape in 1972, six indecent assaults and gross indecency.

It is thought to be one of the oldest cases of its kind to come before the court.
