Omagh victim to be reburied

James Barker, 12, was one of 29 people killed by the Real IRA which set off a car-bomb at Market Street in the County Tyrone town on Saturday 15 August 1998.

He was buried in Buncrana, County Donegal, where the family moved from the south of England three years ago.

But his family have decided to move back to England.

James's mother, Donna Maria Barker, said she felt a sense of relief at the small private ceremony held at the graveside on Thursday morning.

"I feel very calm today.

"I didn't think I would be able to cope with what I had seen at my son's grave on Wednesday night and early this morning.

"But it is amazing how you do get the strength from somewhere.

"When his coffin was lifted out into the large coffin I felt a sense of relief," she said.

The Barker family had moved to the seaside town of Buncrana, with the intention of raising their four children in the peace of rural County Donegal in the Republic of Ireland.

James was on a trip to Omagh with a group of friends when the bomb ripped through Omagh town centre.

Speaking earlier in April, James's father, Victor Barker, said his family's decision to move back to England was "as a very difficult decision, but I think it's a very personal one".

"I think it's the best thing for every member of my family."

Mr Barker has recently appealed to mainstream republicans to help catch the dissident republican bombers who carried out the attack.
